Australian Icons Hoodoo Gurus Sign To Sony Music Australia

22.04.09
Australian iconic band the Hoodoo Gurus signed a new recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment Australia this week. This new deal extends to their whole catalogue as well as a brand new album which is scheduled for release later in the year. It's been 5 years since their last album ('Mach Schau', 2004) and the band are extremely excited to be back in the studio.

As well as continuing to play to sold out crowds in the live arena, their legendary catalogue of albums continues to sell as they pick up a whole new legion of fans. As part of this new deal with Sony Music their songs will now be available digitally for the first time.

Hoodoo Gurus manager of the last 25 years Michael McMartin said "This is really exciting time for the Hoodoo Gurus. It's a fantastic opportunity to be with a great company like Sony Music as well as work together again with some wonderful friends from the past. Together with the re release of the catalogue as well as a brand new album the band is really looking forward to the future together".

Denis Handlin, Chairman and CEO Sony Music Australia said "It is real honour to have the Hoodoo Gurus sign with Sony Music. Over the years I have always admired their great songs and live performances. I'm excited to be working with the Hoodoo Gurus and we are really looking forward to releasing their new album later this year."

Lead singer and founding member Dave Faulkner said "We're thrilled to be working with Denis, Tony and all the great folk at Sony. Stay tuned 'cos the best is yet to come".

The Gurus, as they are affectionately known, formed in 1981 and in their 28 years have recorded some of Australia's favourite radio songs including 'What's My Scene', 'Bittersweet' and 'Like Wow, Wipeout'.

They were inducted into the ARIA hall of fame in 2007 and in their testimonial, were described as "one of the most inventive, lyrically smart and exciting rock 'n' roll bands Australia has ever produced..."
